The Kathmandu Durbar Square, also known as Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square, is a plaza where the old royal palace of Kathmandu stands. This architectural wonder is among the three Durbar Squares in the valley, all of which have been declared as World Heritage Sites by the UNESCO.

Its construction generates all the wisdom of the people of Nepal with the twists of its time. It dates back to the Lichchhavi Dynasty, when art and culture were very highly valued. The Durbar Square is surrounded with other magnificent constructions that all vividly reflect the contributions of Newar artists and craftsmen.

If we can travel back through time, we could see Malla rulers and Shah Kings commanding the city and residing inside this beautiful structure. From the Malla dynasty to the Shah’s reign, the royal palace has gone through minimum changes and alterations, which makes it even more staggering to see.
